대한민국의 사진가로서 지난 20년 간 광고, 패션, 인물, 풍경등을 촬영해 왔다.

홍익대학교와 한성대학교에서 사진을 공부했으며, 라이프스타일 매거진<JJ Magazine>의 크리에이티브 디렉터로서 활동했다.

그가 촬영한 <나무, Trees>시리즈는 수년 간의 여행을 통해 진행되었으며, 나무의 본질을 드러내는 겨울 나목<裸木>이 보여주는 절대적인 아름다움의 순간을 담았다.

 

겨울나무는 특별하다.

죽은 듯, 말라버린 가지 하나에도 반짝이는 생명력이 깃들어 있다.

그 사실을 깨달은 순간 나의 작업은 시작되었다.

나무의 진정한 생명력은 잎이 다 떨어진 후에야 보인다.

 

나무들이 모여있는 그곳은 말라버린 과거가 아니라 생명력으로 가득한 부활의 공간이다.

대자연의 핏줄과 같이 얽혀있는 나무들은 궁극의 아름다움을 보여준다.

그 아름다움을 표현하기 위해서 나무의 개별성 보다는 그들이 모여서 만들어내는 조화로움을 작업에 담았다.

 

숲을 바라보는 나의 위치와 거리는 나만의 존중이자 이번 작업의 핵심이다.

거리를 유지할 때 우리는 서로의 존재를 지킬 수 있다.

사람은 아름다운 것을 사랑하고 존중한다.

사랑하고 존중하는 대상은 지키고 싶어한다.

 

자연과 대립하고 거리낌없이 그들의 세계에 침입하는 문명에게 겨울 나무가 말해주는 공존의 필요성과 생명의 아름다움을 전하고 싶다.

Born in 1968 in Seoul, South Korea, Yul Kim studied photography at Hongik University and Hansung University. 
He has produced commercial, fashion, portrait, and landscape work forover 20 years. As a creative director, Kim managed and published JJ Magazine, a lifestyle magazine. He has been working on the series Trees for years, where he captures the peerless beauty and vitality of bare trees. 

 

「Winter trees are special things. Even a branch that is dried up and dead-looking has its own special beauty. 
That’s why I think the true vitality of a tree can only be seen after its leaves have fallen. 

My real work began once I realized that simple truth.  Groves of tress contain an even greater sense of vitality. 
That’s because they are intertwined, almost like the veins of Mother Nature. 
In order to express their beauty, I emphasize their harmony with each other, not their individuality. This collection of photographs is my way of showing my respect for them. 

I want to show people the need and the importance of coexisting with
nature through the beauty of winter trees.」
